When I think about Encinitas Karate, I don’t simply think about a martial arts school. I think about the children and families who have walked through our doors, the students we’ve watched grow and develop, and the relationships we’ve built throughout the Encinitas community.
After more than four decades in martial arts, those relationships remain one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
When a parent brings a child to us, they’re trusting us with someone incredibly important to them. I’ve always taken that responsibility very seriously.
As a Mother, I Understand the Parent Side Too
I’m not only a martial arts instructor and school owner. I’m also a mother, so I understand how much parents are balancing—school, work, activities, family responsibilities and everything else that comes with raising children.
I’ve had many parents tell me over the years how much Encinitas Karate and our staff have meant to their family as their children grow and develop. We hear about improvements that go beyond the karate floor—more focus at school, better structure and responsibility at home, increased confidence, and a greater willingness to stick with things when they become difficult.
Perhaps most meaningful is when parents tell us they see our instructors as part of their village—a group of trusted adults helping support and guide their child as they grow.
That’s an enormous compliment, and it’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly.
I’ve experienced that journey as a parent myself. My own son began training with me as a young child, earned his black belt and is now an instructor here at Encinitas Karate. Watching him grow through martial arts reinforced something I’ve believed throughout my career: the belts and skills are important, but so is the person a child becomes along the way.
Every Child Is Different
At Encinitas Karate, we specialize in martial arts instruction for ages 4 and up, and one thing I’ve learned is that no two students walk through our doors exactly alike.
Some children arrive full of confidence. Others are shy or hesitant. Some pick up new skills quickly, while others need more time, repetition and encouragement.
Our job isn’t to make every child the same. It’s to get to know each student, understand what motivates them and help them move forward.
That individual attention is an important part of how we teach.
A Staff That’s Invested in Our Students
I’m incredibly proud of the dedication and commitment of our instructors and staff.
Martial arts isn’t about succeeding at everything on the first try. Students will face challenges, become frustrated and occasionally wonder whether they can do something. Those moments are often when a good instructor matters most.
We want our students to know we’re in their corner. Sometimes that means challenging them. Sometimes it means encouraging them. And sometimes it simply means reminding them how far they’ve already come.
We’re not just teaching martial arts. We’re helping children develop confidence, discipline, perseverance and a belief in their own abilities.
Proud to Be Part of the Encinitas Community
Encinitas isn’t simply where our school is located. It’s our community.
We’ve had the privilege of watching young beginners become confident martial artists, black belts and leaders. We’ve watched families grow alongside us, and we’ve developed relationships that extend far beyond a single karate class.
I never take that for granted.
My goal has always been for families to know that when they walk through our doors, their child will be known, encouraged and valued.
That’s what I believe a martial arts school should be.
And that’s what my staff and I work every day to provide at Encinitas Karate.
We are also a demonstrated leader in giving back to the Encinitas community with fundraising sponsorships to help local schools, services and more. Encinitas Karate is a community leader; providing year round camps to support busy families.
